ViMUT Hospital, a leading private hospital in central Bangkok, launches Bone & Joint Center to addresses a growing silent epidemic in Thai society.

Nipat Kulabkaw, chief executive officer of ViMUT Hospital Holding Co

Nipat Kulabkaw, chief executive officer of ViMUT Hospital Holding Co, said that the company has launched the ViMUT Bone & Joint Center under the concept "Restoring Confidence in Every Step". This new center reinforces the hospital's vision to elevate comprehensive healthcare services through a comprehensive bone & joint care approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation to help patients regain confident mobility.

The center addresses a growing silent epidemic in Thai society, with data from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation revealing that Thais spend an average of 13 hours per day sitting. This prolonged sitting, standing, and minimal movement behavior is becoming a catalyst that is quietly spreading bone and joint disease among the working-age population, especially office workers and those who spend extended periods in front of screens daily.

Bone and joint disorders have become a global public health crisis that the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies among the leading causes of disability worldwide.

Approximately 1.71 billion people globally suffer from musculoskeletal conditions, with low back pain being the single leading cause of disability in over 160 countries. Sedentary lifestyles have a direct impact on bodily structure. When the body remains in the same position repeatedly for extended periods, accumulated pressure weakens muscles, reduces blood circulation, and compresses nerves, causing aches, pains, or numbness that may seem minor initially.

Mr Nipat said: "The launch of our Bone & Joint Center represents a bold step forward in our vision to create a holistic healthcare system that prioritizes quality of life over temporary symptom relief. We see that the silent threat from bone and joint disease is expanding every year—not just affecting the elderly but spreading to younger people and working-age adults who form the backbone of our country. That's why we've chosen to invest in this field, that combines specialized medical expertise, world-class technology, and personalized care concepts to restore patients' mobility balance.”

Vimut Hospital plans to add three new center of excellence next year, enhancing its health ecosystem. It also plans to build new building to support future growth of clients.

He adds that today's healthcare sector is transitioning into an era of health partnership, where consumers view hospitals as trusted health partners rather than just treatment providers. ViMUT Hospital is committed to developing a smart health ecosystem that connects centers of excellence with accessible, efficient, and attentive healthcare services, helping Thais move forward with strength at every stage of life.

Suvanich Triamchanchoochai, ViMUT Hospital director

Suvanich Triamchanchoochai, ViMUT Hospital director, said: "The Bone & Joint Center marks a critical step for ViMUT in establishing a center of excellence that doesn't merely treat disease but elevates Thai bone and joint healthcare standards to international levels.

"Moreover, ViMUT Hospital believes that medical excellence stems not just from equipment, but from 'people' who work with heart. We've united specialist physicians across multiple fields, including orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation medicine, sports medicine, and nutritional therapy, to provide comprehensive patient care, restoring normal, active living.

The hospital offers comprehensive treatment systems for bone and joint conditions, including high-resolution Auto Stitching X-Ray digital imaging for full-spine scans; Bone Mineral Density & Whole Body Composition Scan equipment; MRI machines to create detailed images of bone structures.

Somyot Piyaworakhun, orthopedic surgeon and hip & knee specialist at ViMUT Hospital

Somyot Piyaworakhun, orthopedic surgeon and hip & knee specialist at ViMUT Hospital, said: "In reality, most bone and joint diseases don't arise solely from accidents or aging, but from 'repetitive behaviors in daily life' that we perform unconsciously—whether sitting in the same working position for too long, looking down at mobile phones, continuous mouse use, or even excessive standing. These behaviors cause muscles and joints to experience repeated stress, leading to inflammation, tight tendons, and gradual joint wear. Common bone and joint diseases can be divided into three main groups: spinal disorders such as herniated discs and Spondylosis; sports injuries including anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tears, as well as rotator cuff tears in the shoulder; and Osteoarthritis affecting knees and hips."

"The ViMUT Bone & Joint Center provides comprehensive care for every joint from neck to foot. Our center covers treatment for all bone and joint system diseases, from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, herniated discs, tendonitis, and frozen shoulder to sports-related injuries."
